Too Political?

If you're on social media, you are likely more than aware of the Christmas advert from the supermarket Iceland, which was banned on the basis of it being "too political".

If you watched the video wondering what was so political about it, you are far from the only one. As the advert was originally linked to a Greenpeace campaign, this may have influenced the decision. However, with deforestation deemed equally urgent as burning fossil fuels, it could also be argued that it was merely spreading awareness; palm oil is a prominent ingredient in every day products and the unsustainable harvesting of this substance is causing devastating harm to the environment as well as habitat loss.

The banning of this ad campaign could be interpreted as a demonstration of the power the palm oil industry holds over the general public; the media has a strong hold over public perceptions. However, those responsible for removing the campaign was ClearCast, an independent body in charge of approving adverts before they air on television.

Though I personally disagree with its removal, I find the public response rather drastic.

What do you think?
